$100 Laptop

100 dollars laptopJust heard about One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project from yahoo news. It is powered by Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s 433MHz Geode LX-700, a chip that is slow by mainstream standards but consumes little power and is cheaper. I’m pretty impressed by this idea, although it seems like the price is already raised from $130 to $188 now… haha… what can I say?
Insofar as I can see, it will be really hard for them to reduce the price back to the origin expectation — $100.

Despite the functions which are really unknown right now… with this price, in a lot of countries such like China and India, people probably can find some second hand laptops out there… with all illegal copies of full softwares and systems, especially in China… The only way to reduce the price of 100 bugs computer is to get rid of a lot of functions… So, whether is it worthy to spend so much time on such project? Honestly to say, looks fair enough anyway……
